Maui Maine Coon Cats
I was introduced to my first Maine Coon Cat at a cat show on Oahu many years ago and instantly fell in love . . . but at the time I had my hands full as a single mom with two active boys, a beloved persian cat and big husky dog — getting another animal at that time was not an option . . .

When I heard there was a new breeder on Maui and met Linda & Curt and their fabulous KOKUAKATS — well, I couldn’t resist. At the time I was caring for my beloved Dad at home with us under hospice care for over a year and I needed some JOY so I brought Cleo home and she has been my therapy cat ever since! So . . . Purr Joy seemed like an appropriate name for my cattery. I cannot even begin to tell you how much JOY this new family member has brought to all of us!

Linda encouraged me to partner with her breeding program — so here we are onto a new adventure! More Joy! I cannot begin to tell you how special it is to meet all the fabulous cat people and watch the joy spread as they welcome their new forever maine coon cats into their lives!!

We hope our kitties bring as much Purr Joy to your home as they have to ours!!

Fun Facts
Maine Coon Cats are intelligent, trainable, described as “dog like”. They love to play and interact with everyone; very social and want to be a part of everything – so much so they can at times be intrusive. Here’s a few more fun facts:
Male Cats can get as big 15 – 20 lbs! Females 10 – 15 lbs!
Maine Coon Cats are know to be BIG http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-W85kqAaJk The Maine Coon Cat holds the Guiness record for the longest cat.
The height of adults can vary between 10 and 16 inches and they can reach a length of up to 40 inches: including the tail, which can reach a length of 14 inches and is long, tapering, and heavily furred, almost resembling a raccoon’s tail
These cats are slow to mature; their full potential size is normally not reached until they are three to five years old, while other cats take about only one year.
While we can not promise anyone a SUPER BIG cat, our breeders have produced several cats as big as 25 pounds and the largest weighed in at 32 pounds

“They are the best Beth – so sweet and incredibly loving and loved!! They’re so happy and healthy!!”

“I have never had a Maine coon in the family before. I happened to stumble across a photo one day and that’s how it started. The more I read about them the more I wanted one. So I started looking for a cattery near me. There are three, but for some reason Beth and PurrJoy just seemed like the right fit. I waited probably close to a year for the timing to be right to finally welcome a Maine coon into our home and we couldn’t be happier. Beau is the sweetest little guy and so handsome. He loves cuddling which I love but he can also be quite the goofball and is already turning out to be quite the talker. Beth is amazing, she was always so helpful with any questions or concerns that I had during the whole process. PurrJoy ROCKS!”

Alright, first off, I know what you’re thinking. You’re probably reading this because you’re not yet sold on spending more than a thousand dollars on a cat. Why bother, when you can get a pound cat or kitten for almost nothing? I’ll tell you. But it’s a bit of a long story, so you’ll need some patience (trust me, if you’re considering a Maine Coon, you’ll need a little patience and a sense of humor)…

“I had wanted a Maine Coon for years before I decided to finally find a breeder. Living on Oahu made it a little more difficult than usual but thankfully I found Purr Joy which is on Maui! I didn’t know much about the process at first but Beth was so nice, helpful, and informative throughout it all. We’ve had our maine coon, Sophie, for a little over a year now. She is absolutely beautiful and has the best personality (talkative, silly, very smart, loves to play constantly, loves being around us). She knows how to “sit”, give me her paw, and sit on her hind legs on command. Everyone that sees or meets her, just adores her! We had Sophie flown from Maui to Oahu; it went very smoothly and we didn’t have any problems whatsoever. Beth has also been available for questions I had after we had already gotten our Sophie, which I’m very grateful for. I’m just so happy we went with Purr Joy and if you do too, you definitely won’t regret it!

– Thanks Beth for everything!”
